The LMU-China Alumni Network (LMU-CAN) started in October 2017. It has been organized by Mr. Hao FENG, a former LMU-China Scholarship Council (CSC) program student, and supported by the International Office of LMU. The LMU-CAN activities address LMU Alumni from China who studied or are still studying at LMU. The goal of the LMU-CAN is to provide a cooperation platform and resources for collaborative activities, conduct academic communication about the (possible limits of) science, top research topics, academic innovation and interdisciplinary issues.

In this spirit LMU-China Alumni Network organized the 1st Academic Forum in Shanghai on August 25, 2018 with the topic "Collaboration, Innovation and Transformation”.

The forum focused the fields of Medicine, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, German Studies, Economics, Sinology, and Pharmacy. It was the first large-scale event for LMU-China alumni and was attended by over 40 participants, including alumni from Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hefei, Qingdao, and Suzhou. The 1st Academic Forum of LMU-CAN received support and help from the School of Medicine and China Hospital Development Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The event was attended also by LMU vice president for International affairs Prof. Hans van Ess who said in his opening remarks: “The alumni network develops a sense of community between current and former scholars, students and staffs. The forum will promote academic cooperation among LMU alumni, facilitate the integration of disciplines, and enhance the overall popularity of the LMU at home and abroad.”
