Continuation of Registration for the Winter Semester

Deutsche Version

(this does not apply to visiting students nor to visiting students enrolled in the study program for senior citizens)

Please remember to validate your LMUcard after your continuation of registration gets approved.

1. How do I apply for continuation of registration?

To apply for continuation of registration for the Winter Semester 2020/21, transfer the fees payable within the prescribed period to the following bank account:

Payee: LMU Muenchen Zahlstelle
Bank: Bayer. Landesbank Muenchen
IBAN: DE54 7005 0000 3701 1903 15
BIC: BYLADEMM
Reason for transfer: Your registration number/20202/LMU
Rueckmeldung WiSe 2020/21

You will find a QR-Code for your payment by bank transfer in your personal fee account at www.lmu.de/stud-online

2. Which fees are payable?

The fees payable are made up as follows:
a) Basic fee of EUR 75.00
b) Additional fee for the semester ticket in the amount of EUR 67.40

These fees are charged by the University according to Art. 95 Section 5 Clause 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act; the amount is then passed on to the Studentenwerk (extramural Student Services). The fee amount is determined by the Studentenwerk statute.

3. Who needs to pay which fees and when?

In general, all students must pay the two fees due to the Studentenwerk amounting to a total

of EUR 142.40 in one lump sum by no later than 06 July 2020.

Upon application, severely disabled students will not need to pay the additional fee for the semester ticket if they are eligible for free transportation under Book 9 of the German Social Code (SGB IX) and if they present the supplementary page to the disabled person's pass displaying a valid stamp. Please submit your application to the university responsible (see no. 4); at LMU, the application deadline is 06 July 2020.
Any other exceptions for fee waivers will not be accepted.

4. What if I have to register at two universities at the same time?

If you register at LMU Munich and simultaneously at another university outside of Bavaria, you are always required to pay the fees at LMU Munich; whether you are required to pay the fees at the other university as well, you have to resolve with that particular university.
If you register at two universities in Bavaria at the same time, you only have to pay the fees at the university you first registered at. If this is not LMU Munich, then you are required to request personally the continuation of registration at LMU Munich by submitting documentary evidence of the payment made to the other university (payment receipt and a confirmation of registration issued by that university).

At LMU, this personal request for the continuation of registration must take place by no later than 06 July 2020.

“At present, the continuation of registration in-person can only be requested in writing. Please submit by postal mail the request form and the required documents or drop them off at our mailbox at LMU’s main entrance.”

However, the following exceptions do apply:

a) Students who are registered in a joint degree program run by more than one university based on a cooperation agreement between two or more universities must pay the fees to the university whose registration law they are subject to (recipient university); in this case, reporting in person to the other university/universities is not required. This currently only applies to students in the following degree programs:

- Bachelor and master degree program "Professional Training", bachelor degree program "Geosciences" and master degree program "Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology": The recipient university is Technische Universität München.

- Bachelor, master and diplom degree program "Bioinformatics", master degree program "Geological Sciences", master degree program "Geomaterials and Geochemistry", master degree program "Geophysics", master degree program "Theoretical and Mathematical Physics" and "First section of state examination degree program for Medicine": the recipient university is LMU.

If the recipient university does not fall within the area of responsibility of the Munich Studentenwerk, the amount of the fee and liability to pay is based on the provisions that apply to the recipient university.

This only applies to students in the master and Magister degree program "Aisthesis: Historical Art and
Literature Discourses" (recipient university: Katholische Universität Eichstätt) and the master degree program "Software Engineering" (recipient university: Universität Augsburg). Reporting in person to the other university/universities is not required in these cases.

b) Students who are registered at LMU and simultaneously at another university that is within the area of responsibility of the Munich Studentenwerk but does not take part in the semester ticket must – except in the cases listed under a) - pay the additional fee for the semester ticket to the LMU by no later than 06 July 2020; if the basic fee is not also paid to the LMU, evidence of payment of this fee to the other university must be provided to LMU by reporting in person (submission of bank transfer documentation, payment receipt, etc. and a confirmation of matriculation) by no later than 061 July 2020.

The following universities in Munich currently participate in the semester ticket:

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Technische Universität München except for Straubing and Singapur divisions, Hochschule München, Katholische Stiftungshochschule München, Abteilung München/Munich division, Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, Hochschule für angewandte Sprachen / Fachhochschule des SDI, Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf except for Triesdorf and Straubing divisions, Hochschule für Politik München, Hochschule für Philosophie München, Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München, Hochschule der Bayerischen Wirtschaft, Standort München/Munich branch.

5. What else do I need to consider?

a) When applying for continuation of registration, please also keep in mind all regulations regarding the confirmation of health insurance coverage.

b) Prior to paying your fees, please use the online self-service function to check your account balance.
It will also provide you with information on whether your registration was approved and if not, as to the reasons why.

c ) In case your account balance shows an overpayment made during a previous semester, please subtract that amount from the fees due prior to making the the actual payment (see: Beitragskonto: noch zu zahlender Betrag)!

6. What happens if I fail to apply for continuation of registration in a timely manner?

Students who miss the deadline to apply for continuation of registration will be expelled by the end of the current semester. Notifications of expulsion due to missing the deadline to apply for continuation of registration for the Winter Semester 2020/21 will go into effect by the end of the Summer Semester 2020 (30 September 2020).

Please note that only the official German-language version of these terms is legally binding.
