The appointed professor should have a recognized research profile in classical taxonomics /systematics preferentially focusing on phylogenetics and/or population genetics in seed plants. The research program can also be supplemented by more ecological based aspects. The appointment to W3 Professor is a dual role connected to the Directorship of the Munich Botanical Gardens and the Bavarian State Collection for Botany. The collection of the Munich Botanical Gardens is one of the largest in the world with approximately 3.2 million specimens. Both the Botanical Gardens and the state botanical collection are integrated within the Bavarian National History Collections association (Verbund der Staatlichen Naturwissenschaftlichen Sammlungen Bayerns (SNSB)).


The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching at all levels within the Faculty including bachelor, master and teacher programs.

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program. Basic German language skills are required.
